Music & Memory South DAkota

Personalized therapeutic music has been shown to improve behavior, reduce depressive symptoms and help residents with dementia to reconnect with others.  South Dakota nursing homes will have the opportunity to receive national Music & Memory℠ certification, training and equipment to help improve dementia and person-centered care using personalized music experiences. The South Dakota Foundation for Medical Care will lead the project in collaboration with the South Dakota Health Care Association (SDHCA), South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO), Great Plains Quality Innovation Network (QIN), South Dakota Department of Health and the South Dakota Department of Human Services.

The South Dakota Foundation for Medical Care is a partner of the Great Plains Quality Innovation Network (QIN) serving Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.   Great Plains QIN, under contract with CMS, partners with healthcare providers, caregivers, stakeholders and individuals to support the National Quality Strategy, guided by the three aims of better health, better care and lower costs.

Quality improvement initiatives include cardiac health, diabetes care, nursing home care, care coordination, medication safety, antibiotic stewardship, quality reporting and quality payment program, immunizations and the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative.
