As the Quality Improvement Organization for South Dakota, SDFMC depends upon the cooperation and participation of health care professionals. Our physician peer review activities are performed by many physician reviewers comprising a variety of specialties.
A recent regulatory addition pertaining to the review process is the Benefit Improvement and Protection Act (BIPA). This law permits Medicare beneficiary to request an appeal of non-coverage of service notices issued by hospices, home health agencies and nursing homes. Details on this new law, including sample non-coverage notices and protocols, can be found on the BIPA link.
