| Medicare offers a one-time physical exam |
 |
Medicare helps you pay for a one-time preventive physical exam under Part B called the Welcome to Medicare physical exam. Once you enroll in Part B, remember to schedule your “Welcome to Medicare” physical exam right away. Medicare only covers this exam if it occurs within the first six months you have Part B.
How much does the exam cost? You pay 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount after you meet the yearly Part B deductible. What should I expect during the exam? During the exam, your doctor will
record your medical history and check your blood pressure, weight and height; give you a vision test and an electrocardiogram; ensure your shots are up to date and, depending on your general health and medical history, order further tests if necessary; give advice on disease prevention and ways to improve your health or stay well; and give you a checklist of screenings and other preventive services you should get. What should I bring with me to the exam?
Medical records, including immunization records Family health history - learn as much as you can about your family's health history before your appointment A list of current prescriptions, how often you take them, and why To learn more go to www.medicare.gov/Health/physicalexam.asp |
