Part D Prescription Drug Coverage
Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Coverage
Everyone with Medicare, regardless of income, health status, or prescription drugs used, can get prescription drug coverage.
For more information about Medicare prescription drug coverage, what it is, who can get it, when you can get it, and how you can get it, go to www.medicare.gov/pdphome.asp.
Medicare Part D Open Enrollment
The Open Enrollment period for Medicare Part D plans begins again on November 15 and concludes December 31, 2007. Senior Health Information and Insurance Education (SHIINE) and a group called Medicare Partners are available to help people compare Part D plans and help people enroll in different plans, if they wish, beginning November 15 through December 31.
SHIINE and Medicare Partners are offering informational sessions in many locations across the State. People who want to see where the presentations and/or health fairs are being held can go to www.shiine.net and click on MEDICARE PART D ASSISTANCE BY COUNTY.
If you do not have access to a computer, you may call SHIINE at 1-800-536-8197 (or 333-3314 in Sioux Falls) to find out where help is available. There will also be general information about Part D available at presentations and enrollment sites. This may be helpful to people new to Medicare.
Do You Know Someone Who Is Having Trouble Paying for Prescription Drugs?
Medicare Can Help!
*If an individual has limited income and resources, they may qualify for extra help from Medicare. It could be worth over $3,300 in savings on prescription drug costs per year.
*Encourage people with Medicare to file for Extra Help online: https://s044a90.ssa.gov/apps6z/i1020/main.html or by calling Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 to apply over the phone.
*State Health Insurance Information Program (SHIP) offices can assist with the application. Find contact information for a local SHIP Counselor at http://www.medicare.gov/contacts/static/allStateContacts.asp or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE.
